Meknes was once the heart of the Moroccan Sultanate and had over 20 grand gateways and 50 palaces at its peak. This fortified city within a city had palaces, dungeons, mosques and gardens. Meknes was 20% Jewish in the 17th century and there is an old Jewish Quarter near the Royal Palace. The Sultan protected Jews and Christians from onslaughts by Berbers thanks to "protection money."

Interesting Royal Granaries and stories about the Sultan's concubines and 12,000 horses in the video. When you had it...you had it!
